Sundstrand Sauer Danfoss Integral Charge Pump Part 3
Tandem Pump
Tandem Pumps that don’t have an integral charge pump have a pilot ring and drive coupling with spring locating pin that is in the charge pump housing. Instructions for setting a side and putting the front and rear p ump portions are similar to those for units with an integral charge pump.
Take out the two 12 point head screws and the hex nut which keep the front and rear pump sections together. Separate the front and rear sections of the pump. The gerotor plate (earlier models) usually stays in the rear section of the pump.
Take out the two small and one large o ring (if you have a date code of 86-14).
In the first quarter of 1986, the gerotor ring and plate are made as one.
If you have a separate gerotor ring and spacer plate, take out the shaft coupling and pin from the front section. The gerotor assembly needs to come out as well as the ring and pin. And the gerotor plate from the rear section of the pump needs to come out.
If your pump has a one piece gerotor cover, take out the gerotor cover and pin.
Take the front gerotor spacer plate from units that have a 15.6 cc/rev charge pump.
Take out the outer o ring from the rear section of the pump and the inner oring from the gerotor plate or cover.
The date code 87-34 units have a modified gerotor cover and smaller outer o ring. Each part needs to looked over individually to see if they can be reused. If they need to be replaced, do so. It will help your unit run better down the road. And make sure to replace the orings also.
