Vickers – Removal of Front Shaft Bearing on a Fixed Displacement Transmission Motor

Pull the shaft and bearing from the housing.

Then take out the drive shaft bearing by doing the next steps:

Put in a nine inch piece of 1 1/2 ” heaving wall of tubing over the drive shaft. The end of the tubing will set up against the inner race of the tapered roller bearing and will extend out of the  end of the shaft. Next put the shaft and bearing with tubing into an arbor press with the drive spine up. Hold down the drive shaft thru the bearing. A .001″ press is between the shaft and bearing so you can apply a generous amount of force to take out the bearing from the shaft. Don’t take out the bearing race unless it needs it.

Remove the retaining ring and press shaft seal out of the housing. Use a piece of tubing about 1 1/2″ as a tool.

Make sure all your tools and parts are kept clean. Use clean compressed air to help blow out debris. All this important when it comes time to assemble your parts back together.
