Different Kinds of Specialized Bearings Part 1

Instrumental Bearings

These types of bearings are precision ball bearings that have at least one or more of these characteristics:

smooth running (limited vibrations)

low or steady operating torque

control of contact angle

extreme cleanliness

They also come in 3 basic sizes:

miniature

intermediate

thin section

The miniature bearings usually have an O.D. no greater than 3/8″ , but some do have thin section with a maximum O.D. of 1/2″.

The intermediate bearings can have as much as 1″ O.D. and larger thin section bearings are available up to 4″ in diameter.

Bearings of this caliber are used in gyromotors, servomotors, gear heads, potentiometers and flowmeters just to name a few examples.
