Sundstrand M23 and M35 Controls and Direct Displacement Control

Comments Off on Sundstrand M23 and M35 Controls and Direct Displacement Control

These pumps are maneuvered by a direct displacement control. On the M46 units, it has a servo control that can either have a MDC, HDC or EDC control on it. They have an effortless control of the transmission going from right to left (bottom chart show applications).

The DDC is on on one side or the other on the pump. When the control shaft is moved it uses a corresponding swashplate kind of movement and it makes the displacement go from full displacement in either direction. You can put DDC on variable motors/pumps and tandems.

On the chart at the top left for port locations and motion control

E1 = CW trunnion rotation for a variable pump or tandem front pump that has a left side control.

F1 = CCW trunnion rotation for a variable pump and tandem front pump that has left side control.

E2 = CCW trunnion rotation for a tandem rear pump that has left side control.

F2 = CW trunnion rotation for a tandem rear pump that has left side control.

External Control Handle

Control torque is needed at the swashplate trunnion so it can control the swashplate and get the upper hand on internal hydraulic dynamics of 1000 PSI at 50 lbs per inch and 70 bar of pressure. The max torque is 500 lb per inch for M23 and 750 lbs per in on M35. Your lest amount is just enough to hold the swasplate at a zero angle in neutral is 20 lbs per in. The max angle is 17 degrees for M23 and 16 degrees for M35.
